Hotel Review: InterContinental Tampa

This past weekend I visited Tampa for a quick 24 hour trip. Waking up a little hungover on Saturday and making the two hour drive wasn’t terrible, as the weather was beautiful and I had coffee.

The InterContinental Tampa is located just south of Tampa International Airport on the other side of I-275 so I’d imagine it would be a great spot to stay if one was actually flying in or out. The area itself isn’t that great, with some strip malls and office parks nearby. I wouldn’t advocate staying here to experience Tampa.

I was able to book the room using a best rate guarantee which made the total cost of the room $0 as opposed to the normal $136 room rate. IHG has one of the best BRGs in the business if you can successfully utilize it; the first night of any stay is free if you find a better competing room rate within 24 hours of booking. Small plug for my LIst of Hotel BRG programs , a convenient resource with everything you wanted to know about each chain and how to stay on the cheap or free.

I self-parked in the garage behind the main hotel entrance. One thing that was nice about the hotel is that parking is free, something that can be difficult to find in large cities like Tampa (especially downtown).

Upon arrival I was gifted a standard Platinum welcome amenity (600 points) and given a indoor atrium view room on the 11th floor.

The room was nothing special and I ended up only using the room to shower and change prior to the wedding I was in town for. I did lay on the King bed for a bit and it felt decently comfortable.

The view of the atrium overlooked the neighboring office park and was quite boring.

The bathroom was small but modern and perfect for my needs.

Overall the hotel was modern and clean. It also had a very business-y feel to it, which is unlike most of the other IC properties I’ve stayed at. Overall a good value for the money (free)!
